2. Arntor, Ein Windir | Arntor, A Warrior

In Kaupanger the District Governors lived
Ivar Dape and another deceiver
sworn to Sverre Sigurdsson
they collected taxes, excises and more fees.

The people of Sogndal only supported Magnus
Erlingsson, not the deceiver King Sverre.
The King was afraid to lose Sogn to Magnus the
true kingsson.

Close to Christmas 1183
The Governor-filth demanded extra taxes to
Christmas celebrations for themselves and some
others.
The bloodbath was about to happen.

Led by Arntor from Kvåle together with Isak
Torgilsson and the sons of Arngeir the priest,
Gaute and Karlshead.

These brave men form Sogndal, Eide and
Kaupanger went against the governor-scum on
Christmas eve angry and full of hate.

The wiseapple Ivar Dape asked for peace
Arntor and his men proclaimed war.
But after the axe his head choppen off,
there wasn't much peace left in his chest.

Past midnight the killing of thieves, crocks,
servants and Ivar Dape was done.
The celebration of Christmas in Sogndal began.

3. Kong Hydnes Haug | The Burial Mound Of King Hydnes

Farthest away in the powerful Norafjordr
From the god Nor's time
Farthest out in Lomeldi, inner Slind
In the last half of the fourth century there was
made a tomb for a windir (warrior) on King Hydnes burial
mound.

A coffin long as a man made out of stone that never
breaks.
In the coffin by his right hand side lay a
longsword,
a buckle of bronze held his cape.
By his feet two earthen vessels with supper.

Outside the coffin by the left gable-wall
two spears lay ready, the head turned westwards.
Everything for the journey.

But in the last century fear began,
ignorant men with lust for land
cleared 14 centuries with peace of mind
In 300 cords of stone.

Ignorant they were about the fear
that the god's rage created
The everlasting fear which still rules
In the far end of Slind even today.

There is a scary mood
A dark full of emotions.
Gods who can take from you what you need the
most
- a disposition.

Still many people has feared to travel between
Soknardalr and Leikvangir after dusk.

4. Svartesmeden Og Lundamyrstrollet | The Blacksmith And The Troll Of Lundamyr

The blacksmith lived in Bjedla in Sogndal.
It was in the days when there were trolls in all hamlets,
of mounds and crags, from all places, and did generally harm.

Some had haunts at the main road and scared the life off
travellers after sunset; the most horrible of
these was the troll of Lundamyri
which stayed at Lundamyri in the midst of the village.

The blacksmith had a magic sword, Flusi was the name.
It happened one Saturday evening he thought to go out.
He got ready, sheathed Flusi, went down the hills and followed
the road to below the grove where he had the bog in front of him.

She shone and gleamed in the moonshine.
And now he saw the troll of Lundamyri which lay sleeping,
awful big and had spread itself out over the bog.

But then it flew anger in the blacksmith, if he owned might and sword,
he got to test them last putting an end to the folly.
At that he pulled Flusi and passed the steel right in its chest.
Then the whole troll woke and started up.
It writhed by the stab and tried to get rid of the sword.

"Stab and pull" shrieked the troll and thought to get
the blacksmith to pull the sword back again.
"Let stand then stand till Monday" said the smith,
and with that he went away to sea.

Now the troll wailed. When the blacksmith went home,
it was dead, and he sheathed Flusi.
But then three gateways opened in the nearest Loftesnes Mountain,
and out it teemed and crawled trolls, small and big.

”Now is grandpa dead, now is grandpa dead!” they shrieked.
They came and got the troll of Lundamyri between them and pulled it over
the fjord and in the biggest gateway. There the troll-rabble --kvark--.
Later the gateway closed,
and the mountain hid the frightful company in its lap.

For long times after people fear to travel here, mostly in the nights.
It gleamed so strange then down on the bog in the moonshine.
The fear grew big, and they thought to hear troll-shrieks through the valley.
Maybe the tolls were returned.

The darkness reflects my emotions,
but there is a hollowness in the reflection.

The lyrics are written in the Sognamål dialect, which is hard to understand even for most Norwegian people.
The translations up here are the ones that are in the booklet of the CD, so here's hoping someone is able to translate the other songs as well..

"sogne" is a region in norway: Sognefjord, Sognedal (Sognevalley) and "Sogn og Fjordane" is a district. XD

Ending is not instrumental, but the lyrics are not written in the booklet.
It is based on a traditional song called Anne Knutsdotter. I only get some words, and most of the first verse which I have written and translated here.
And it rhymes in english too.

i'm not known with nynorsk (didn't learn it), but i can read it and i can read the biggest parts of the lyrics, but not fluently aaand iiiit taaakes tiiiime...
