Týr is a progressive viking metal band from the Faroe Islands in Denmark.
Their lyrics are about Norse mythology, paganism and faeroese/nordic lore.
Their style is very much love it or hate it, but I sure do love it
The band formed in January 1998 by Faroe Islanders living in
Copenhagen (at the time). Týr had their Faroese breakthrough in April
2001 when they participated in the Prix Føroyar contest. "Ormurin
Langi" was the greatest Faroese hit ever in the Faroes. Early 2002, the
same song hit bigtime in Iceland and paved the way for Týr's popularity
there.

Týr is the Germanic God of courage, strength, justice, victory,
defense, and battle. He sacrifices his hand to Fenris in order to bind
him. Týr will perish at Ragnarok when he fights the wolf-hound, Garm,
who in turn perishes at Týr's hand.
The god Týr was originally known as Tiwaz. The T-rune, which is named
after him, symbolizes fighting for truth and one's beliefs, as well as
standing for dedication and valour in combat.

Faroe Islands metallers TÝR will release their fourth full-length album, "Land", on May 30 in Europe and June 10 in the U.S. via Napalm Records. According to the band, the follow-up to 2006's "Ragnarok"
"contains mostly Faeroese, but also Icelandic and Norwegian
traditionals, re-arranged into heavy metal. The second most prevalent
language is English." The CD was recorded at Jacob Hansen's (RAUNCHY, ROB ROCK, HATESPHERE, MERCENARY) studio in Ribe, Denmark.

Great band, really. And I love the cover art of the upcoming album

Týr is so awesome. I can't wait to see them at Paganfest. Their new album comes out right after that too!

I received my copy of "Land" yesterday , with the poster (crappy one ) i'll listen to it tonight, i'll try to post a review tomorrow.
Teasing: the first single, Skinlars Visa is awesome, totally Týr style.

I already listened to the leaked promo some time ago, great album!
My favorite track is probably Gátu Ríma.
And I agree about the intro, it's magnificent and immediately sets the mood..

I have at the moment 3 albums of this band
Eric the Red, Ragnarok and Land and I love this band much!
I'd like to see them soon live in Mexico
