Chur pronounced "Tchoor" is an ukrainian pagan folk metal band formed in 2005 composed of 3 members :

The name denotes an ancestor-keeper in Slavic mythology. He is a patron of tribal territories and properties, who protect borders of a kin and its lands from intrusions of malicious spirits and foes. In modern Slavic languages his name still designates a wooden idol, an admissible limit and protection against malicious forces. Primary meanings of the word "CHUR" are “keeper”, “ancestor” and “wooden idol”.

The Ukrainian folk metal band CHUR which cancelled the contract with the German label Hammermark Art, at last has found publishers for a new album titled as “Lykho". A role of the publishers is played by the Russian-Ukrainian tandem CASUS BELLI MUSICA / SVAROGOVO KOLO DISTRO.
The band CHUR became a group giving concerts from a one-man project, and the band has already become perceptible with its debut full-length CD and split-CD with OPRICH (Russia, folk metal) getting cordial reception of listeners and great appreciation of the musical press. The band played several successful concerts at musical festivals in Russia and Ukraine.

The rough date of the release is the 22nd of December, 2009, but already now all interested persons can make a reservation of the CD for a special price and get a special version of the album with a personal autograph of Chur BEFORE the official release date.
Pre-orders are accepted till the 1st of November, 2009, pre-order lists of customers will be presented on CHUR’s official web site and on sites of the publishers.

CHUR sets out to a virtual reality! We have begun our cooperation with a team of founders of the largest Russian-speaking MOD (modification, add-on, alternative version) of the famous computer game "Gothic II – Night of the Raven (Die Nacht Des Raben)" under the name "Dark Saga" (Gothic II - The Dark Saga). Musicians of CHUR composed music for the title song of "The Dark Saga", and a fighting song of orcs, and also participate in the MOD’s creation actively. The MOD’s protagonist, Alaster, as well as several orcs, will speak in Evgen’s voice (the vocalist of CHUR), and the majority of new animations for the MOD is created by CHUR’s drummer, Alexey "Scythian". Also, the MOD’s developers discuss an idea of CHUR band’s presentation in the MOD in the same way as IN EXTREMO in the first part of Gothic.

CASUS BELLI MUSICA and SVAROGOVO KOLO Distro present the second album of the Ukrainian folk metal band CHUR on the Midwinter Day!
It’s not a kind of "folk metal", it is METAL FOLK with traditional Slavonic melodic patterns, traditional handcrafted Folk instruments, and traditional choral Folk singing without any Gothic influences, and without any intentional use of some "metal standards".
Lyrics are based on Slavonic mythology, topics of epics and folktales, and figurativeness characteristic of our primordial tradition. "We don’t follow that modern fashion for Paganism – we just hear the voice of our Blood, and love our culture, trying to be worthy of our Ancestors and their GODS".
